PIVOT
Pivot is a Max For Live device used to generate and transform rhythmic patterns in a novel way.
Metapattern
In PIVOT you make a rhythm by defining a metapattern.
With a Metapattern you create two coupled rhythmic voices, which have a relationship as a figure and flexible grid.
On the right you can see a rhythm necklace. The solid line, linking to the white steps in the Metapattern, is the figure, the dotted polygon linking to the total amount of steps is the flexible grid.

Examples:

Morphing
Depending on the Metapattern the morph dial in the middle of the necklace enables different rhythmic transformations.
At morph state zero, the flexible grid is spread evenly over the cycle, visualized as dotted polygon in the necklace. By turning the morph dial continuously to its maximum the figure (white steps in the metapattern) get distributed evenly in the circle.
Consequentally while morphing up, the solid polygon becomes equilateral and the dotted polygon warps its shape.

Pattern Sequencer
to explore the combination of various Metapattern, Morph States and other parameters of the device there is a Pattern Sequencer.

We create musical devices for users to make rhythm emerge in an expressive form, instead of taming it into rigid grid structures.
